Monte Carlo Micranthemum (Micranthemum tweediei) is a beautiful carpeting aquatic plant native to Argentina. It was first discovered in the Monte Carlo region of Misiones, which is how it got its common name. This plant thrives in moist, humid environments along riverbanks and streams, where it naturally spreads across rocks and soil, forming dense, lush mats.
A Story of Growth
Imagine a clear, slow-moving river in Argentina, where the sun filters through the canopy, casting dappled light on the water’s edge. Small clusters of Micranthemum tweediei take root in the nutrient-rich substrate, their tiny, round leaves absorbing sunlight to fuel their growth. As time passes, the plant sends out delicate runners, weaving a vibrant green carpet across the riverbank.
When introduced to an aquarium, Monte Carlo mimics this natural growth pattern, forming a lush, low-lying carpet that enhances aquascapes. With good lighting and CO₂ supplementation, it spreads quickly, creating a soft, inviting bed for fish and shrimp to explore—just like it does in the wild streams of Argentina.
Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo” is a great foreground mid light plant. It can also grow on rock and ledges. 1 portion is 5x5cm square size.
